Ticks in Minecraft are one cycle of the game’s algorithm, and the ticks in Minecraft have a predetermined pace. So, what would you do if you wanted to adjust the tick speed?
Minecraft’s program loop moves at a constant rate of 20 ticks per second. After activating the cheats, use the command “/gamerule randomTickSpeed |your tick number|>” to modify the tick speed. “/gamerule randomTickSpeed 80,” for example. This command will modify your tick every four seconds. Another option is to alter it in your game’s options.
Your game will update more slowly if your tick rate is greater. Your game would only update once per hour if you set the tick rate to 7200. It will update once per second if you set it to 20.
If you set it to a lower number, frequent game updates may cause the game to lag and perform slower. Setting the tick higher, on the other hand, may help you grow plants quicker. But why should you, and why is it required, to adjust the tick speed? Let’s have a look.
Default Tick Speed:
Simply explained, in Minecraft, a game tick is the unit of time. Minecraft’s default tick rate is 20 ticks per second. It indicates that every 0.05 seconds, one tick happens.
Ticks are responsible for Minecraft’s improvements and upgrades. In the game, a day lasts 24000 ticks. That would take 20 minutes in real life. When you press ALT + F3 in the game, the TPS (ticks per second) figure is shown on the screen.
In Java Edition, the random tick speed is set to three by default. The random tick speed in the Bedrock Edition is one.
Do not meddle with the random tick speed if you do not know how to use or adjust it. If you set it to very high settings, the game may become unplayable. Allow me to demonstrate how it works:

Fastest Tick Speed:
You may change the tick rate from 0 to 256 ticks per second. The default number is 20, however, you may modify it after you’ve enabled the cheats and reached a higher level in the game. With each level you gain, the number of ticks per second increases.
Modifying Tick Speed:
Use the letter “T” for Windows 10 and JavaScript edition, and the D-pad on the controller for PS4 and Xbox to access the chat window. Once the chat window has opened, use the command shown below to alter the tick speed to your liking.
Your settings are the second way to modify the tick speed. While playing the game, go to the settings. At the very bottom of the options page, there is an option called “Random Tick Speed.” Click it and enter the new tick speed you’d want to use.

The command “/gamerule” may be used to adjust the tick speed. This command is available in various Minecraft versions. There are two commands in particular:
- /gamerule RandomTickSpeed <value>
- /gamerule RandomTickSpeed
The first is to regulate the rate at which objects develop or decay by setting a precise number for the tick speed.
